About

Listen to Learn Chinese is an interactive language learning platform designed to help you master Mandarin Chinese through immersive listening, speaking, and reading exercises.

Our approach focuses on practical, real-world language skills. Each lesson is carefully crafted to build your vocabulary, improve your comprehension, and develop your confidence in using Chinese naturally.

Our Approach

We believe in the power of comprehensible input — the idea that you acquire language most effectively by understanding messages, not by memorizing rules. This approach, developed by linguist Stephen Krashen, suggests that when you engage with content that is mostly understandable with just a small stretch beyond your current level, your brain naturally absorbs vocabulary, grammar, and usage patterns.

Research consistently shows that learners need to understand around 95–98% of what they hear or read for acquisition to happen efficiently. That's why our content is carefully leveled — so you're always in the optimal zone where language feels challenging but not overwhelming.

How It Works

Choose from three learning modes tailored to different aspects of language acquisition:

  • Listening Mode — Train your ear with native audio and test your comprehension through interactive exercises. Listening is especially important for Mandarin — it builds your sensitivity to tones and helps you internalize the rhythm and flow of natural speech.
  • Speaking Mode — Practice pronunciation and tones by recording yourself and comparing with native speakers. Speaking emerges naturally once you've built a strong listening foundation.
  • Reading Mode — Expand your vocabulary and reading skills with engaging texts at your level. Reading reinforces what you hear and helps you connect characters to the sounds you already know.

Levels & Progress

Content is organized by HSK levels (HSK 1 through HSK 9), allowing you to start at your current ability and progress at your own pace. This isn't about rushing through units — it's about spending enough time with comprehensible content that the language becomes part of you.

Track your learning streaks and celebrate your consistency as you advance through the material. Research shows that regular, sustained exposure is far more effective than cramming — even 15–30 minutes of daily practice leads to meaningful progress over time.
